THE City of Harare, in partnership with the Government, is working on transforming Mabvuku Poly Clinic into a 24-hour facility for maternity and later into a casualty hospital that can attend to accidents and minor operations.
In an interview after touring Mabvuku Poly Clinic with Health and Child Care Deputy Minister Sleiman Kwidini today, Harare Mayor Councillor Jacob Mafume said Mabvuku Poly Clinic will become a 24-hour clinic in two weeks.
“So we are working towards a collaborative effort with the Government for the council to improve the infrastructure, personnel and funding and make it a district hospital,” he said.
“We want to prevent loss of lives as people are being transported to hospitals such as Parirenyatwa.
“We will do this in the southern suburbs, we will do this in the northern suburbs, we will do this in the eastern suburbs.
“We will have a minimum of four district hospitals for Harare.
Clr Mafume said the council has a lot of land on which additional health infrastructure can be built.
“If we can’t build horizontally, we can build vertically,” he said.
Clr Mafume said Mabvuku Poly Clinic currently has 30 beds.
“We are going to increase them to close to 100 beds in a short while. The poly clinic currently undertakes cesarean operations, maternity delivery and other outpatient services,” he said.
