VETERAN music producer Macdonald ‘Macdee’ Chidavaenzi has united several artists in what he describes as an effort to bridge musical generations within the industry.
In this massive collaboration, Chidavaenzi worked with Michael Magz, Madedido, Xtra Large, Calvin Mangena, and Shayne on the song ‘Mari Yangu’. Despite recent controversies surrounding his personal life, which garnered attention on social media a few months ago, the singer and producer chose to focus on his musical career rather than engaging in the rumours. Reports suggested he had a divorce but, in an interview, he emphasised his commitment to music rather than personal life.
“My main focus is on music and this collaboration brings together both the younger generation and the older generation.
“I worked with artists from various genres, including hip hop, Afrobeat, dancehall and social commentary. The whole idea is to bridge the gap between seasoned and rising singers, as seen with Michael Magz, Madedido, Xtra Large, Calvin Mangena, and Shayne.”
Chidavaenzi said he worked with his son and protégé, Tadex Made It, who was behind the production of the project. “I am impressed with the response from our fans, the video of the song has already garnered over 30,000 views on YouTube.
“This is a sign that the collaboration is paying off. The response I am receiving is overwhelming. As artists, we need to be very creative and strike a balance between appealing to new and old audiences.
“Remember, when we create music, we cater to different age groups, and some listeners are drawn to the music because they recognise certain names.
“Therefore, we must produce music that cuts across all ages to keep our listeners engaged.”
