SUNGURA superstar Alick Macheso has been blown away by the love he has received from thousands of women who have attended his two shows at the Doek & Slay all-women parties in Harare and Gweru, in the past two weeks.
Macheso made his debut at Doek & Slay at Alex Sports Club before a record-breaking crowd estimated at about 27,000 women.
He also performed when the show moved to Gweru on Sunday.
Until now, Macheso has largely performed before crowds which are predominantly male.
Macheso told H-Metro:
“I want to thank ana Baba nekudhinda mavisa.
“I was shocked to the point where I had to ask myself if I was blind or not, the ladies really came out in numbers. I have never seen so many women in one place in my music career.”
Macheso curated a playlist specifically for the ladies, featuring songs that resonated with them.
His playlist included songs like “Tafadzwa” and “Shedia,” just to mention a few.
“I really appreciate the people behind Doek and Slay for organising an event that’s specifically for ladies.
“Shoutout to all the men who allowed their women to attend.
“It really shows that women love attending musical shows, it’s just that most of them happen during the night and many can’t attend because they have to be home taking care of the house and society will label them as bad mothers.
“But this space welcomed children and they attended the show.
“They deserve to have their own space, like what Doek and Slay is doing, because they go through a lot at times.
“I saw how happy it made them and we love that, thank you.”
Macheso added:
“Me and my team, we appreciate all the ladies who embraced us at Doek and Slay.”
