HIPPO Valley Estates Limited officially launched its 70th anniversary celebrations yesterday with a signing ceremony that brought together company executives, members of the media, and representatives of Orchestra Mberikwazvo ahead of the milestone gala celebrations.
The event marked the beginning of commemorations for the company’s seven decades of operations, growth and contribution to Zimbabwe’s agricultural and industrial sectors. The firm’s corporate communications manager, Anne Nyakunu, said the occasion had symbolised more than the signing of a performance agreement, but the beginning of a major celebration honouring the company’s legacy.
“Yesterday’s event was more than the signing of a performance agreement,” said Nyakunu.
“It represented the coming together of key partners who would help us celebrate a remarkable milestone in the history of Hippo Valley Estates Limited, 70 years of growth, resilience, community impact and nation building.” Nyakunu said the anniversary celebrations reflected the company’s long journey and the impact it had made in communities over the years. She also acknowledged the role played by the media in documenting the company’s milestones and preserving its story.
“Journalists and media houses remained invaluable partners in documenting our story, sharing our milestones and helping us engage meaningfully with the communities we serve,” she said.
“Your role in shaping public narratives and preserving corporate and national history could not be overstated.”
As part of the celebrations, the company partnered with veteran sungura musician Alick Macheso, whose performance is expected to headline the anniversary gala set for May 30 at Chishamiso Stadium in Chiredzi.
Nyakunu said the partnership reflected shared values of endurance, heritage and national pride.
“We were equally excited to partner with one of Zimbabwe’s most celebrated musical icons, Alick Macheso,” she said.
“His music had transcended generations and continued to unite people across the country and beyond.”
She added that the company believed the collaboration matched the spirit of the anniversary celebrations.
“As Hippo Valley Estates celebrated 70 years of heritage and excellence, we believed it was fitting to work with an artist whose contribution to Zimbabwean culture and entertainment reflected the same spirit of endurance, relevance and national pride,” she said. The company said the gala celebrations would honour Hippo Valley Estates’ contribution to community development while also celebrating its achievements through music and culture.
“The Anniversary Gala promises to be a memorable celebration of our journey, honouring the past, celebrating the present and looking confidently towards the future,” Nyakunu added.
Closing the event, Hippo Valley Estates Head of Corporate and Industry Affairs Dr Dahlia Garwe said the celebrations represented a fusion of corporate heritage, entertainment and community values.
“This partnership represented the fusion of corporate heritage, culture, music and community, values that were deeply important to us as an organisation,” said Dr Garwe.
She said the company remained committed to preserving its heritage while contributing towards national development.
“As Hippo Valley Estates Limited celebrated 70 years under the theme: Tadzika Midzi | Deeply Rooted | Sesigxilise Izimpande | Hi Dzike Timitsu, we remained committed to honouring our heritage while continuing to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of our nation,” she said.
