It will be a father-and-son affair at a popular entertainment venue in Bulawayo on June 5 when Sungura music legend Aleck Macheso shares the stage with Peter Moyo, the son of the late Tongai “Dhewa” Moyo, one of Macheso’s closest friends and former contemporaries.

The show is expected to evoke nostalgia among Sungura fans, as Macheso and the late Dhewa once performed together and played a significant role in shaping the genre.

Sharing the stage with Peter is set to rekindle fond memories of those days, particularly as the younger Moyo frequently performs some of his father’s classic hits.

The event also presents a rare opportunity for Sungura enthusiasts to witness two generations of the genre coming together. Peter Moyo has steadily established himself as one of the leading voices of the new generation, carrying forward the rich legacy of Sungura music while adding his own unique touch.

Event organiser Tapiwa Gandiwa said the show was deliberately crafted to celebrate and preserve Sungura’s heritage.

“This will be our first Sungura event of the year, and as we return to hosting shows, we wanted to give fans something special. We came up with the idea of an ‘old school meets new school’ concert and decided to bring together Macheso and Peter Moyo.

“Back in the day, Macheso and Dhewa were among the leading figures in Sungura music. Today, Macheso remains one of the genre’s surviving legends, and his experience and artistry continue to inspire younger musicians. We are looking forward to a memorable night of entertainment,” said Gandiwa.

Macheso and Peter Moyo will be supported by Mr Jaiva, DJ Bhanditti, Flexxy, SKB, Ayacc and Keitho.
