Macheso set to leave Chi-Town

The Orchestra Mberikwazvo front man, who is on record as saying that he will never leave Chitungwiza, Harare’s most popular satellite town, has cited persistent water problems as the reason for moving to Waterfalls – a moderately up-market suburb befitting his superstar status.
The Waterfalls house is now fully furnished with top-of-the range fittings and ready for occupation.
When The Herald visited his Chitungwiza home in Unit A yesterday, it resembled a semi-deserted home with some of the old furniture scattered around the rooms.
According to a family friend and neighbour, Macheso is believed to be moving to Waterfalls with Nyadzisai and their six children.
“He is one foot out of Chitungwiza and most of his property has already been ferried to his new house.
“Water problems have forced him to move from the neighbourhood he so much adored and cherished throughout his formative years.
“There are persistent water problems here, as you can see we are resorting to using water from unprotected sources.
“Macheso’s family has not been spared from this water problem. So he has decided to take his family to their new home,” said Erica Gwaze, a close friend to Macheso and Nyadzisai.
She said water problems had gone unresolved for the past two years and people had to fetch water from wells and others like Macheso had to resort to buying spring water.
Macheso was said to have gone out for dinner with Nyadzisai when the Herald crew visited him.
Macheso’s eldest daughter Sharon, confirmed they were leaving Chitungwiza in a couple of weeks.
“We should be out in the next few weeks. As you can see some of the furniture is not here.
“It has been ferried to Waterfalls,” Sharon said.
She said the new house is already well-furnished with property bought locally as well as from South Africa.
She said a relative, Lucky Macheso, would take up their Chitungwiza home.
Earlier, Macheso’s manager, William Tsandukwa, confirmed the latest development.
He, however, dispelled reports that Macheso had acquired property worth over US$4 000 for his second wife Tafadzwa.
“That was not Tafadzwa’s property as some papers wrongly suggested.
“In fact, Tafadzwa probably thought that the furniture was hers when it was the first wife who had sent her to buy the goods on her behalf. The two are more like sisters you know,” he said.
Tsandukwa said most of Macheso’s property was already in Waterfalls.
“Everything is almost in place, the family will move in once final touches are completed,” he said.
However, Macheso seemed to be reluctant to talk about the intended move to Waterfalls to the media.
He said he had no intentions of leaving Chitungwiza.
“There is nothing like that (moving), I am staying here in Chitungwiza and I have no intentions of leaving.”
