CRISTIANO Ronaldo is a great athlete who needs no introduction.
Hard work, discipline and focus have made the soccer ace a global icon. He scores to win.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is a trendsetter who is scoring for fun.
Of course, age is catching up with him, but he still has the mojo.
This could be the case with sungura music ace Alick Macheso who has been ruling the roost for 26 years after leaving Nicholas Zakaria’s Khiama Boys.
He passed the taste and test with flying colours last Friday at Alexandra Sports Club in Harare where he successfully launched his 13th album “Kupa Kuturika”.
As we had indicated, number 13 embodies the energy of positive transformation and growth in life.
This was again the case at the launch where Macheso attracted a bumper crowd.
He silenced doubting Thomases by filling the spacious venue.
Of course, he might not be the same Macheso of 1998 who gave us the album “Magariro” but class is permanent.
This debate has been raging with many questioning his creativity, but his camp remains defiant that Macheso will never fade.
Although he only played one new song titled “Zvinoda Hama” from his latest album at the launch, Macheso’s fans respected his decision.
As expected, some social media users trolled him for only playing one song.
Harsh critics also questioned the quality of the song.
However, his loyal fans are having none of it. To the loyal fans, Macheso has nothing to prove.
Like the proverbial wine that matures with age, Macheso hardly puts the foot wrong wherever he performs.
A father figure in showbiz after the death of Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi on January 23, 2019, Macheso is simply the crowd’s favourite.
Last Friday, he led a star-studded line-up of youthful creatives who look up to him.
Songbird of the moment Feli Nandi stole the show.
She stole the show with sing-along tracks like “Mubayeyi”, “Ndoona Iwe” and “Muti Watemwa” among others.
Her group complimented her from start to finish.
“It was an honour performing at this big occasion. Baba Sharo is a living legend who has nothing to prove.
“He is our father figure in showbiz and we are going to cherish him for years,” she said.
Rap sensation Saintfloew, who hails from Chitungwiza, was at his usual best as he supported Macheso wholeheartedly.
Backed by Shabach The Band, Saintfloew keeps on evolving with each outing.
His benefactor Tinashe Mutarisi also appeared on stage and hailed Macheso for the successful launch.
Mutarisi also saluted Macheso as one who supported him when he started Nash Paints.
“It’s an honour to celebrate with our living legend Alick Macheso.
“We come a long way together.
Hype-man DJ Fantan was at his usual best, giving fans a refreshing playlist from Chomurenga, Zim dancehall, and reggae.
Macheso’s sons — Esau and Tatenda — assured revellers that the Orchestra Mberikwazvo brand was in safe years.
The Cheso Boys’ co-directors (Esau and Tatenda) complemented each other on and off stage.
Macheso has been grooming his sons for years and the time has come for them to shine.
Like Cristiano, Macheso continues to break new records.
His poor and tough upbringing has made him stronger.
He proved his kindness after roping in youthful musicians at his album launch.
“We don’t have a problem sharing or collaborating with youngsters as was the case today.
“I might be way older than most of these guys who supported me today, but I also learn from them.
“I will always make myself available if they need my expertise,” he said.
From Cristiano’s template who inspired several athletes, including Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe, Macheso is a role model to the crop of young musicians
He was also rewarded for his generosity by fans, including Minister of Youth Empowerment and Vocational Training Tino Machakaire.
For a change, Macheso got it right in terms of planning.
The sound quality and lighting were superb.
Star FM presenters were broadcasting live from Alexandra Sports Club as they kept millions of their listeners updated.
The VIP enclosure was well manned with Harare’s well-heeled Brighton Ushendibaba of Pan Jap among the guests.
Macheso’s 13th album launch can easily pass as a success.
His fans are the best judges to review the new songs.
