A FIVE-MAN-GANG from Kwekwe and Zhombe will rot in jail after the High Court sitting at Gokwe threw the book at them for the brutal mob murder of Henry Mlilo in 2021.
Only Ndlovu (Mbizo), Tanaka Pande (Marivale), Munashe Denzel Machingura (Zhombe), Tawanda Nyoni (Globe & Phoenix) and Goodlot Chitau (Mbizo) were each slapped with 20 years behind bars for ambushing Mlilo at Plot 74 in Riverside Kwekwe.
The court heard how the gang acted in cold-blooded connivance, pouncing on Mlilo like a pack of wolves. They were armed to the teeth with machetes, stones and an axe and delivered a ruthless assault that left the victim dead at the scene.
Justice was swift and merciless. The court ruled that the sustained and calculated nature of the attack showed nothing but intent to kill and a shocking disregard for human life.
“The deliberate nature of the attack was proof that this was no accident. It was murder,” said the judge in a scathing rebuke.
The verdict sent a strong message across Midlands: mob justice is murder and the courts won’t hesitate to hand down heavy time.
“This sentence is a clear warning. Those who take the law into their own hands will face the full wrath of justice,” said the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) in a statement.
As the machete menace continues to plague mining towns like Kwekwe and Zhombe, communities are being urged to reject vigilante violence and work with law enforcement.
