Thupeyo Muleya, Beitbridge Bureau

The Beitbridge Regional Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday sentenced a 25-year-old man to two and a half years in prison for attacking a fellow resident with a machete.

The assault occurred after the victim was accused of sitting on the offender’s spot at a communal borehole in Madinginye suburb.

Desire Moyo was convicted of attacking the man in the head, causing near-fatal wounds.

He was initially sentenced to five years in prison, but the presiding magistrate, Ms Charity Maphosa set aside two and a half years on condition of good behaviour.

Prosecuting, Mr Willbrought Muleya said on September 20 this year, Moyo found the complainant sitting on a slab at a local borehole.

Moyo who was armed with a machete accused the complainant of sitting on his place and went on to strike him on the head once with the machete.
