The selling season of cotton is around the corner and farmers and ginners are currently negotiating on the pricing mechanism.
CGA main objectives include promoting production of cotton and products derived from the crop, to ensure that quality standards are maintained in the cotton industry and to ensure that fair trade practices, as stated in the by-laws and in other industry fora, prevail in the cotton industry.
It also advises Government on matters affecting, or which might affect, the association members. The association is comprised of 15 members. Most of the cotton produced in the country in recent years had been financed by ginners through contract farming.
Last year, ginners spent US$42 million on inputs and provision of technical services. This year’s cotton output is estimated to be around 260 000 tonnes from 347 000 tonnes a year earlier.
