TALENTED footballer Tafadzwa Madamombe who recently got a scholarship to study in the United States of America has been appointed vice captain of the Wiley College Football club.He is less than three months old at the Texas side.
Madamombe said he is happy with the confidence that his teammates and coach Demitreo Hernandez have given him.
“I’m honoured to be part of the team and very happy that the coach believes in me,” said Madamombe.
The former Christian Brothers College pupil said he is still adapting to the environmental changes especially in balancing his school work with football.
“I’m still adapting. It’s a wholly different ball game to what I’m used to back home. Here it’s more technical and it’s fast paced from the first minute to the last and I have to balance my football and studies,” he said.
He believes that Zimbabwe should invest in developing football at grassroots level.
“The development of soccer has to start at a very young age and I think if Zimbabwe adopts such a policy our football standards will improve.
“Although soccer may not be the number one sport in USA, a lot of funding is invested in the development of football at grassroots level for the facilities, coaching, nutrition and medical staff,” he said.
The 22-year-old is working to fulfil his dream of playing for the senior national team.
“I’m working hard to achieve my dream of serving the country, hopefully one day I might be called up to come and represent my country in the senior national team,” he said.
