MADEDIDO FINDS SOLACE IN MUSIC

RISING Zimdancehall chanter Madedido says he has defied the odds to successfully launch his career despite his poor background.

Born Pride Fashu, the 24-year-old Chitungwiza-based singer said his passion for music is growing stronger after recording his first hit song, ‘Attack MaJapanees,’ featuring Enzo Ishall, last year.

Madedido said he recorded his first song when he was 16 owing to his association with various artists, producers and dancers, who inspired him at a tender age.

“I grew up in Masvingo where I used to enjoy local music and was inspired by how artists handled themselves on and off the stage, wearing expensive clothing, and all.

“I saw myself in their shoes while believing music could be my only way out of poverty,” he said.

After facing financial challenges to further his studies, the chanter found solace in his music.

“I was unable to finish my education because my parents could not afford paying fees, this affected me a lot but now I feel I can become a better person through music.

“I’ve been blessed with pure loving fans and they loved me from day one.

“If it wasn’t for them I would still be in Masvingo,” he said.

Madedido wants to eventually establish his own record label, own a businesses and properties in the next five years.

The chanter says he owes his growing fame to a promoter who discovered his talent.

“I owe everything to Boss Tanya and Gora Cyprian Gavaza, who saw me and Fella Yut performing at an event and afterwards they told us they were willing to support our craft.

“My music is a fusion of trap, dancehall and hardcore dancehall, with an African flavour,” said Madedido.

Madedido has also worked on projects with Nash TV, T Man and Cymplex.

“I am currently working on my debut album that will drop anytime soon,” he said.

Madedido draws inspiration from international artists like Vybz Kartel, Skeng, and Skillibeng, as well as local artists such as Winky D, Freeman, and Nutty O.

He is also a religious man who is part of Prophet Walter Magaya’s PHD Ministries.

“I have been let down by a few music promoters who failed to meet their commitments, resulting in me missing shows and tarnishing my image.

“I am not a bad boy.

“To all the young people out there, I say, follow your dreams and you’ll work better. When you do what you love, the job becomes easier and with God everything is possible “ said Madedido.
