YESTERYEAR football great Madinda Ndlovu was on Saturday honoured as a Legend of Legends in a special awards ceremony held for Bosso ex-players for their prowess on the pitch during their heyday, which kept the black and white army as a household name.
The awards ceremony, which was held at Bulawayo Theatre on Saturday evening, brought together former players from different eras to be celebrated.
Organised by Stanley Nyathi through his Neighbour Magazine, the event, which is now set to be an annual event, honored former players.
According to Douglas” British” Mloyi, another Highlanders yesteryear great, Khathazile, as Ndlovu, is fondly known, greatly deserves the honour.
“Who doesn’t know what Madinda used to do in the field of play.
It’s a well-deserved honour to him and on behalf of other former Bosso players, I say congratulations to Madinda,” said Mloyi.
He added: Madinda was a very good player who was endowed with speed and skill. What a dribbling wizard he was and we say thank you to the organisers of the event for helping us meet as a Highlanders family.”
Fondly known as Khathazile, Ndlovu is an elder brother to legendary Peter and the late Adam.
The three siblings, who did well for Bosso and the Warriors, helping them dribble into the hearts of hordes of football followers in the country with so much ease.
The event which also saw the Bosso greats get a playing kit donation that came through Mr Sinkwa, was organised by Stanley Nyathi through his Neighbour Magazine.
“We decided to appreciate the Highlanders FC former players as they are an important part of the club’s rich history.
They played for Highlanders, and their prowess on the pitch not only catapulted their names into stardom but also kept the Highlanders FC brand on everyone’s lips and etched in the annals of history,” said Nyathi.
He said Highlanders was not just a football club but part of Zimbabwe’s heritage and culture.
“We view Highlanders as our culture and heritage, which is why we decided to hold these awards and also raise awareness of the club’s99-year celebrations. It is also a precursor to the 100-year celebrations pencilled in for next year,” said Nyathi.
Former players such as South Africa based Alexander ‘The Cool Ruler”, Maseko, Blessing Gumiso, Simba Rusike, Thabani “Mqwayi” Masawi, Tapuwa “Campos” Kapini, Sizabantu Khoza, Njabulo Tshiki Ncube, Mkhokheli Dube, Gift Lunga (snr) and Zenzo “Zemura” Moyo among others graced the event. -@Fungai Muderere
