Madlangombe tourney for Friday

Sikhumbuzo Moyo, Senior Sports Report
THE annual Madlangombe Football Tournament sponsored by South Africa-based Zimbabwean Mthabisi Mlingo will be held on Friday with four teams set to battle it out for the prize money.

Madlangombe is located about 25km from Tsholotsho business centre in the Tsholotsho South constituency.

Teams set to participate in this year’s tournament are Bhulubisa, Batategulu, Buffalo Strikers from Bulawayo’s Emakhandeni suburb and New Stars.

“We are on again this year as per our promise of having this tournament on an annual basis. Tsholotsho is the place to be on Friday as we again bring the youths together and I would like to urge scouts to come and see some of the wonderful talent in rural areas,” said Mlingo.

The winner will get a full kit, medals and a trophy.

Mlingo said it was his hope that a star will emerge from the tournament and play for one of the big teams in the Premier Soccer League to show that Tsholotsho is full of talent which needs to be marketed and groomed properly.

Well known stars that hail from the district include Sizabantu Khoza and Joel Luphahla, who had decorated careers at Bulawayo giants Highlanders.

The district also broke barriers a few years ago when Tsholotsho FC were promoted to the PSL and stayed for three years before being relegated this season.
