MADLELA Skhobokhobo’s sophomore album Majazana’s first three weeks of release have been somewhat underwhelming forcing the artiste to plead for the public’s support.
His second studio album was launched amid pomp and fanfare in Gwanda early this month. Riding on the success of his first self-entitled debut Madlela had high hopes for it.
“Since the launch we have pushed but the sales have not reached our target of 2 000 copies. We hope to get there (2 000 sales) in time as we are giving people time to love the album. It is too soon for negative comments,” said Madlela.
The artiste believes other than piracy, his album sales have been affected by the bad economic situation and the lack of interest from record distributors.
“It can never be easy working under such conditions whereby there’s piracy which has destroyed a good system of doing things. We used to have distributors as artistes but nowadays we sell our works on our own. We also have a cash problem. One has to deal with EcoCash, one money and swipe because I am mostly based in South Africa and it becomes hard to change the money into rand at a fair rate,” he said.
He admits that his second album will find it hard to dislodge his first which had monster hits such as Ngamnaka uSaMaMo.
