DELTA Force Boxing Academy’s Revai Madondo says she has turned her focus on Argentinian, Mariela Ribera Vaverde, in a WBO title fight in April this year.
Madondo and her trainer, Clyde Musonda, returned home with their heads high after the boxer emerged victorious in a non-title bout against Stumai Muki on Friday in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The super flyweight champion, Madondo, was judged the winner through a unanimous decision.
The pugilist, who turned professional three years ago, will now take on Argentinian opponent, Vaverde, in a WBO title fight.
The duel in Tanzania was one of the several supporting bouts for the WBF International super-featherweight contest between Ibrahim Class and Dennis Mwale.
Most importantly, for the Zimbabweans, Madondo’s bout was used as an elimination match ahead of the WBO title fight, against Vaverde, in April.
“I am not going to sit back but continue working hard. My target is to do well in the WBO fight and I am going to begin preparations from now,’’ said Madondo.
“The match was tough but we had prepared hard and everything went according to plan.
“We are not going to break camp but to work hard for the upcoming encounter.”
Musonda, who is Madondo’s coach, said he wanted to make his boxer’s dream come true.
“We are going to do our best to see that the match is going to happen in April,’’ he said.
“From now, we will shift focus and try to prepare for the next match.
“There is every reason to work hard.’’
Madondo has, so far, taken part in five competitive matches, winning three and coming short in two attempts.
