Madzibaba Mutumwa’s Highlanders pledge

AT a time when most benefactors seem to have been fatigued of helping various football clubs, one of Highlanders’ all-weather friend, Prophet Madzibaba Mutumwa of Johane Masowe Chishanu, has pledged to further stretch his helping hand to local Division One and junior football clubs.

Mutumwa revealed this on Monday after he donated mealie-meal, cooking oil and sugar to 40 recipients made up of Highlanders players and coaches.

They each got 10kgs of mealie-meal, 2 litres cooking oil and 2kgs of sugar.

This was the second time for the Apostolic sect, Johane Masowe Chishanu Selborne Park, donated to Bosso through their leader.

“The church supports soccer. The negative effects of Covid-19 are still being felt by our sports persons. We can’t let them starve. We can’t turn our backs against them hence my second donation to Highlanders. Bosso is a club I will keep on praying for. In society we need to look after each other and we will not tire of donating and we are looking forward to extending a similar gesture to Division One clubs and junior teams in Bulawayo.

“Football players entertain us week in week out and as such it is our duty to help them in time of need. Gone are the days where we would focus on helping PSL players and coaches because our next recipients will be players and coaches from Division One and junior clubs because there is a need to value everyone who makes soccer great ,” said Mutumwa.

With local football players still inactive following the Covid-19 induced lockdown, Mutumwa encouraged them to preserve their gifts.

“They should just keep on believing in themselves, preserve their talents. The country will certainly bounce back to football action after Covid-19 has been contained. There is no need for football players to give up,” he said.

Highlanders media officer Ronald Moyo said they were grateful to Mutumwa for the gift.

“This gesture always pleases us. Just like everyone else we have been hit by Covid-19 pandemic. The gesture goes to show we have a number of people who have Highlanders at heart, people who care about others in the society and people who value the spirit of giving. This is as a result of the relations we are continuously building with the community and the corporate world. Most importantly, he (Mutumwa) declared himself a Highlanders fan. We will be hoping to see him very often in the stadium cheering the team when football returns,” said Moyo.

Early this year, Bosso were ditched by their principal sponsor NetOne and they are in a partnership with Arenel.

In June and July, Arenel helped Bosso to captivate their fans through the Bosso Kasi Battles which saw Highlanders fans win various prizes from the diversified food processing company.

Last season, Arenel sponsored the Highlanders first team with their Hydro Boost mineral water for training and match days with indications the two organisations might be working on a bigger partnership.
