POLICE rugby club women’s coach Julius Madzima feels the National League was neglected this year as teams failed to fulfil fixtures owing to poor organisation and lack of sponsorship.
Madzima yesterday said he was not happy with the way business was conducted this season as the women’s, teams on most occasions, were unable to play their league fixtures and ended up playing more friendly matches against a few available teams.
The women did not have sponsorship which means they could only fulfil the fixtures which were convenient.
Madzima feels the committee could have done more in assisting the women’s league to run well.
“The structure of the league was badly conducted, the teams had more friendly matches than the league games.
“The women really never played proper matches and it was sad because there was also a financial problem, the women did not have sponsorship to fulfil their league fixtures.
“I think the way forward for the women league next season will be to find sponsors and play the entire league fixtures. Then we will be able to say all is well this season,” said Madzima.
While the men’s game will end with a Harare derby clash between Old Hararians and Harare Sports Club, the women’s teams would have to be content with being armchair viewers of the events on the last day of the season.
Harare Sports Club coach Mathias Bvepfepfe said he was happy with how his team performed this season, although they did not play all the fixtures due to the restructuring.
“I was happy with my team. Their performance was good, although most of their fixtures were not fulfilled and they ended up playing more friendly matches.”
