Madzongwe hopes to inspire CAPS Utd

CAPS United midfielder, Kelvin Madzongwe, is hoping that his Chibuku Super Cup luck charm will inspire Makepeke as they take on Dynamos in the second semi-final at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Madzongwe will become the first player to claim the country’s flagship knock-out competition thrice in a row should the Green Machine down DeMbare in this fixture to book their spot in the final.

Ever since Madzongwe won his first league title with FC Platinum in 2019, he has made it a habit to end the season with a silverware.

The 32-year-old, is the only player to win this tournament in its last two editions.

He won it with FC Platinum and Bulawayo Chiefs respectively.

The Boston University graduate joined CAPS United earlier this campaign and interestingly, they are appearing in this tournament’s semi-finals for the first time in their ninth attempt since 2014.

If CAPS United manage to put an end to their lengthy Chibuku title wait, clearly it has to be Madzongwe’s luck charm.

Unfortunately, he will not take part in what will be Sunday’s biggest event in the capital as he is mourning his sibling Busani Ali in the City of Kings.

But, the problem is that, coach Lloyd Chitembwe has been finding beating the Glamour Boys elusive this season.

He has lost home and away in this campaign and this has given DeMbare fans every reason to look beyond this heavyweight clash.

If there is any player who is probably praying to be served by Madzongwe’s luck charm is the team’s anchorman, Devon Chafa.

Chafa shares the pole position with FC Platinum’s Gift Bello as players who have won the Castle Lager Premiership seven times.

Madzongwe feels his teammates have the ability to stop the Glamour Boys.

“It’s been a Rollercoaster ride for us, we have endured a lot in this season but this is our chance to show why we are CAPS United and I believe we have the capacity to win this game.

“The Harare derby comes with much pressure and expectation. But, I believe the boys should just go out there and enjoy the moment.

“They should not think too much about where we are coming from and if the team manages to get the better of Dynamos, it will mean much to our fans who have been our pillar of strength,” said Madzongwe.
