album.
They are at the finishing stages of cooking up their seventh CD, which is likely to be titled “Reunited”.
The album, which is being produced by DJ Oskido alongside Maphorisa of Uhuru, will be released at the end of next month.
Mafikizolo singer Nhlanhla Nciza is ecstatic about their new release.
“This has been an exciting and a blessed project. We will be releasing our album next month, though we haven’t yet decided on the title.
“We’re thinking of naming it Reunited because it makes sense for us after being apart for years,” she says.
The group isn’t only making a comeback – they have also refreshed their sound.
It is totally different from their previous hits.
Nciza calls it a blessing to have met some young producers in the industry who have helped with the evolution of the traditional Mafikizolo 60s sound.
“We were lucky to have upcoming producers, who helped us come up with fresh ideas,” she says.
The duo, who are known for their afro-pop style, have moved on to become an African house sensation.
Their new hit is a dance and sweat tune.
They have adopted an African style in the song and it sounds rather like an Angolan melody, though it is sung in isiZulu.
By the look of things, it is bound to make waves in other African countries as well.
“We wanted an African feel. Many of our tracks on the new album have a unique sound, though some of our songs are still afro-pop,” Nciza says.
Their previous sound appeared more popular to a mature audience, so they have broadened their horizons and are set to reach out more to the youth.
The twosome were last seen in the music industry in 2006 after releasing their sixth album, “Mabone” before trying to launch solo careers.
Mafikizolo started in 1996 with three members – Nciza, Theo Kgosinkwe and the late Tebogo Madingoane. – Sunday World.
