Popular award-winning gospel duo of Sabastian Magacha and Mudiwa Mtandwa put up great performances at the weekend in Mbare.
The two who were guest performers at the St Paul UMC @61 anniversary wowed the crowd with their hit songs including “1+1” “Taita Mari” and “Ridza Bhosvo”.
ZIMA winner Saba said was happy to perform at a church gathering where he connected with his fans.
“I am shocked with the response I got from the UMC crowd. I was invited for a short notice and managed to sing two songs but the crowd is tremendous,” he said. Magacha said it was part of his community work as an artist.
“I later dished out some of my latest live DVD’s before having a photo session with my fans. Again some of my DVD’s were also on sale and lucky fans had a chance to have the autographed copies,” said Magacha. The pint-sized musician said music was his lifestyle. “If you have Jesus in your life everything is smooth. I congratulate the church for 61 years but the years should resemble and reflect your direction, where you are going and coming from,” he said.
Mudiwa later drove the crowd into frenzy with his hip style as the crowd did a sing along to his Ndaita Mari track.
He said was pleased to rekindle his romance with Mbare fans after earlier this year he performed there.
“Mbare is the heart of Harare and the town has talented youths. This is not my first time performing in Mbare but have done several shows with different churches,” he said.
Mudiwa who was clad in black suit and white shirt said gospel music is the sound of the present and future.
“I am happy to see how Christian youths are loving and liking the gospel music especially how gospel hip-hop is penetrating in churches. What we have witnessed today (Sunday) as youths performed their rendition of various songs is awesome,” he said.
Mudiwa who also took time chatting with youths on music skills said it was the job of renowned musicians to develop others.
“No one is born perfect but we should assist each other when it comes to developing the arts sector. I started singing in church and still sing in church but if you have a talent, make sure you use the given opportunity to expose yourself,” he said.
The musician later pledged to assist three upcoming youths on their music career. “If you are serious with music it can take you far, look at me now though I am still aiming for more,” he said.
St Paul UMC Reverend Juliet Chirova said all went according to plan.
“We are proud methodist and happy that the church has turned 61 years of which we are celebrity the ministry making disciples,” she said.
St Paul UMYF performed a play based on the anniversary theme.
The anniversary saw various church officials, choirs and diplomats taking part.
