Zim bowls team win gold in Namibia

ZIMBABWE men’s team amassed 13 points and were crowned men’s overall winners of the Quadrangular Bowls series at the Windhoek Country Club in Namibia on Sunday.

The Zimbabwe men’s side took the led on 13 points after a fine performance on the greens with a shot difference of 63.

South African settled for second place with 12 points with a shot difference of 19 while their junior team took third place after accumulating 10 points with a minus four shot difference.

In the Fours Zimbabwean team which was represented by Denis Streak, Tom Craven, Jono Evans and Clive Robertson played three games and recorded four points to finish behind South Africa who six points in total. In the singles competition, Zimbabwe’s Terry Bowes was in top form after playing three matches and registering four points with a shot difference of 14 and an aggregate of 1.30435.

The South African Junior side settled for second place with 13 points and they also had four points but their aggregate was good enough to put them on top of the log at (1.27660).

Bowls Zimbabwe president Malcolm Evans says the more exposure the teams get the better it will play.

“The men’s side has the making of a great side. It augurs well for the future with the next World Bowls qualifier coming up late next year.

“I hope the team can stay together, I say well done Zimbabwe,” said Evans. In the women’s section, Kerry Craven, Heather Singleton and Silva Kendal-Ball had six points on a shot difference of seven and an aggregate of 1.18919.
