LAZARUS Magaya had broken his silence and hit back at Malanti Chiefs co-director, Victor Rodriguez, saying the Swazi football chief is the one who needs specialist treament. The coach visited The Herald yesterday to tell his side of the story. Rodriguez claimed this week that Magaya needed specialist help. “I am surprised by the articles that are being written about me. They are causing a lot of disharmony to me, my family, relatives, friends and my employers,” said Magaya.
“I think it him Rodriguez who needs psychological help not me. I don’t even know him. I, however, admit that I was employed by Gamedze for 45 days. They wanted my certificates and I came back to collect them.
“ZIFA offices were closed for a longer period and when I went back they had already appointed a Zambian and that is how I left. “I have never changed my numbers and I am actually surprised. I might be struggling in life but people should not take that as an advantage to tarnish my image.”
He denied ever trying to sabotage Ngezi Platinum Stars’ coaches.
“Last Saturday I was sitting in the VIP at the National Sports Stadium where I was surprised to see my former neighbour in Mabvuku, Stanely Segula (the Ngezi Platinum Stars president) who was my uncle’s friend,” said Magaya.
“I just went to greet him. After the match I walked him to his car and he gave me his phone number. I haven’t yet phoned him and I don’t know if it is any offence to meet and talk to former neighbours.
“I am not looking for employment at Ngezi Platinum Stars because I have a running contract with Mbambane Citizens in Division One.
“They have not advertised for a coach and I am not the type of a person who back-bites people. Maybe some people have some motives against me but I am praying that God will forgive them and show them the light.
“I have never sabotaged Julius (Chakupewa) and Hebert (Maruwa). I respect them as fellow Zimbabweans and I always wish them all the best. My heart is bleeding and I just want God to forgive those who are tarnishing my name.
“I did not attend lessons today as I am looking for $500 I owe ZIFA so that I can write my exams. I have not been so lucky but I know one day I will make it.
“My appeal is just for some people to stop the idea of dragging other people’s names through the mud.”
The former Masvingo United coach has been in Swaziland since June last year.
