Magistrate drags man to court

A 25-year-old man from Masvingo’s Mucheke suburb appeared in court yesterday for accusing the magistrate of receiving a bribe from a plaintiff during the hearing of a civil case in court.
Liveston Machando of 6300 Ngundu Street, Mucheke D pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Masvingo magistrate Mr Langton Ndokera facing a charge of criminal defamation.

He was remanded in custody to tomorrow for judgment.
The prosecutor, Mr Shamiso Masokovere, told the court that on 12 August Machando appeared in the Civil Court where the magistrate, Mr Jabulani Mzinyathi was presiding.

Machando was being sued for allegedly causing damages to the plaintiff’s Mercedes Benz.
The court was told that while in the court, Machando alleged that Mr Mzinyathi had received a bribe from the plaintiff.
Machando went on to allege that Mr Mzinyathi was seen by an unknown informant receiving the bribe.

The court was told that Machando uttered the allegations in an open court in the presence of witnesses.
After the court session Mr Mzinyathi filed a report leading to Machando’s arrest.
