Magistrate sworn in

Magistrates should stick to the principles and values that guide justice delivery, Harare Provincial Magistrate Mr Mishrod Guvamombe has said.
He said a magistrate’s job was onerous and built on the indispensable values of honesty, integrity, impartiality and hard work among others.
Mr Guvamombe said this on Thursday at the swearing-in ceremony of new magistrate, Mr Silas Chitongo.
“Any deviation from these values will not only tarnish the image of you as a magistrate but can easily plunge the entire administration of justice into disrepute.
“The issue of corruption is topical in Zimbabwe and condemnation is not intended to be cosmetic but is a real warning to those that engage in it,” he said
Mr Guvamombe said it was paramount for magistrates to be independent, pointing out that the Judicial Service was now clearly differentiated from the Public Service. – CR.
