BINDURA United shot to the top of the World Navi Northern Region soccer league when they beat Starbill 2-0 at Chipadze in a weekend that saw most of the struggling teams turning the tables against the top teams.
The hosts got their goals from Daniel “Magrease” Kamunhenga in the first half and Quality Kangadze weighed in with the other goal in the second half to seal their victory as they toppled rivals Mushowani, who lost to Karoi United 1-3, from the top of the log.

Mushowani are now trailing the new leaders by two points.
However, for now, it continues to be a battle between the two Mashonaland Central-based clubs on top of the tables.

Bindura United coach John Wilo said now that they are leading the race they have to work hard to maintain their fine run.
“We managed to have an early goal and that changed everything. Our strength was our defence, we managed to control these guys because they were really coming at us,” said Wilo.

“So, when we got a goal we didn’t let it go.
“Now we are on top of the log which implies that each and every game will be tough. Leading the race means there is a little bit of pressure but we are not going to change the format.

“We are going to treat each and every game as a new game and we are not going to let the foot off the clutch.”
It was also a good day for seasoned campaigners DStv Rangers as they got their first win of the season.

The victory comes as a relief for coach Elvis “Chuchu” Chiweshe, who last week admitted that he was desperate for a win and was not happy with the way things were going with his club as results were not coming.

Former Premiership side Gunners maintained their winning ways when they dismissed Blue Swallows 2-0 at Lafarge with Moses Demera scoring one of the goals for his team.

He took his tally of goals to eight out of the nine games.
Troubled Chegutu Pirates parted ways with coach Tavaka Gumbo but still can’t figure out a way to win and their latest loss was a 0-2 defeat by DC Academy.
