Magwegwe home attacked in family dispute

Residents of Magwegwe suburb in Bulawayo have been left shaken following a fresh violent incident in which the home of Kuda Nkomo’s sister was allegedly attacked by a relative demanding to know his whereabouts.

The latest development has heightened fears in the suburb, where tensions have been simmering since Nkomo reportedly went into hiding after facing sustained threats and harassment following his decision to come out as bisexual.

According to neighbours, the attack occurred late at night when Mr Future Tshuma allegedly stormed the house where Nkomo’s sister resides, accusing her of hiding him and demanding that she reveal his location.

Witnesses said the confrontation quickly turned violent, with property damaged as terrified neighbours watched helplessly.

“We heard shouting outside and then loud banging on the doors. He was demanding to know where Kuda was, accusing the sister of concealing him. People were scared because it looked like he was prepared to do anything,” said one resident who declined to be named for fear of reprisals.

Another neighbour said the incident has deepened fear within the community, especially among relatives believed to be in contact with Nkomo.

“This is no longer just about family disagreements. It has become a matter of life and death. If an elderly woman can be attacked simply because she is suspected of knowing where her brothert is, then everyone around them is at risk,” said the neighbour.

The alleged attack is the latest in a chain of violent incidents linked to Nkomo’s fallout with his in-laws after details of his sexual orientation emerged.

Residents say what began as family hostility has spiralled into a dangerous manhunt, with Nkomo’s relatives and associates living in constant fear.

Community members allege that Mr Tshuma has continued to issue threats, vowing not to stop until Nkomo is found.

“Kuda has disappeared because he fears for his life, but now even those connected to him are under attack. We are worried that this violence will get worse if authorities do not act.

“The family is now living in fear as one of their relatives also died after being attacked by unkown assailants at night and there is strong suspicion that these incidences are linked,” said another resident.

The Magwegwe community, which had earlier rallied around Nkomo in solidarity, is now calling for urgent police intervention to prevent further violence.

Some residents say the failure to decisively deal with earlier threats has emboldened the alleged perpetrator, creating an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty.

“We need the police to step in before someone is killed. This family has already suffered enough, and innocent relatives should not be targeted,” said a community elder.
