DESPITE Inline Academy having been confirmed champions there is still a lot to play for on the final day of the 2018 Thembalethu Southern Region Women’s League season.
The champions will today visit Magwegwe Stars at Magwegwe High School with the hosts looking forward to spoiling the party for their opponents who are on the verge of finishing the season unbeaten.
The golden boot is all but sealed with Inline Academy’s Peacemore Kanende leading on 20 goals and continues to terrify defenders with her intense pace followed by Magwegwe Stars’ Pamela Nkomo who has scored 16.
Magwegwe Stars coach, Anele Nyathi is optimistic that today’s match will live up to its billing and is hopeful that his young squad will shock the league champions by giving them their first defeat of the season.
“I have a lot of respect for Inline. They are an experienced and knowledgeable side so they’ll know how to handle the pressure and I think for me to have qualities of a great coach I will have to take the pressure off the players,” said Nyathi.
He said it is obvious that Inline has a lot of pressure and his team is probably the underdogs.
“The players understand that when you play Inline, you have to give everything and you must be committed and you’ve got to earn everything you get, and it won’t be any different tomorrow (today). We drew 1-1 with them in our first round match but the past is irrelevant,” Nyathi said.
He said it is no secret that his team will want to beat their opponents.
Highlanders Royals will play host to New Orleans at Highlanders Sports Club while Ubuntu will welcome struggling Sobukhazi in Cowdray Park. In another match, Bulawayo Polytechnic will play host to Blackboots at Byo Poly Grounds.
