A 28-YEAR-OLD man from Mahatshula South suburb in Bulawayo who plies his unscrupulous pickpocket trade ran out of luck when he pulled his stunt on a police officer.

Malvin Nyangani pleaded not guilty to theft before Bulawayo magistrate Nomagugu Maphosa. However, he was remanded out of custody to 15 July on US$30 bail.

According to court papers, it emerged that the two were at a local hotel when the accused pulled up his tricks. When asked by the magistrate about the complaints that he had against the police, he indicated that he was assaulted.

“The police officer who happens to be the complainant arrested me at a local hotel and thrashed me to the pulp at the Bulawayo Central Police station,” he said.

Allegations against Nyangani are that on 8 April 2024, he met up with Nomore Mudhumo at a local hotel. He stole Mundhumo’s cellphone worth US$50 and US$30 and went away.

Investigations were carried out leading to the recovery of the cell phone and the arrest of the suspect.
