Mahofa takes swipe at non-performing officials

All non-performing Government officials who are concentrating on factional fights instead of developmental projects should not stand during the 2018 elections as they have failed the electorate, Masvingo Provincial Affairs Minister Senator Shuvai Mahofa has said. The honourable thing for the said politicians to do, Sen Mahofa said, was to vacate their offices come 2018.

Sen Mahofa was speaking at the Chivi Zim-Asset Feedback Conference at Chivi Rural District Council Offices last Friday. The feedback conference was aimed at demystifying Zim-Asset as well as taking stock of the progress made in implementing developmental projects.

“What made me proud is that Dr Killer Zivhu said we should focus on developing our Constituencies than politics. There are politicians who are doing nothing for the electorate,” she said. “There are politicians who will spend five years without drilling even a well in their Constituencies. We will kindly ask them to vacate their offices.”

Sen Mahofa said the community of Masvingo should be beneficiaries of Tokwe-Mukosi Dam. She said from Tokwe-Mukosi, irrigation projects should be developed as well as other business opportunities.

Minister of State for Liaising on Psychomotor Activities in Education Cde Josiah Hungwe, who was the guest of honour, implored individuals to have the mindset of Dr Zivhu of uplifting communities. Cde Hungwe said instead of people jostling for positions and attacking each other, they should unite and work for the betterment of the country.

He then likened Dr Zivhu to “Jesus the Saviour” leading to wild applause, saying this was as a result of his philanthropic work of assisting communities as well as developing Chivi District.

“The message that l have for you is that of unity. President Mugabe three weeks ago said we should unite and spearhead Zim-Asset,” he said. “You should not be jealous of young individuals such as Dr Zivhu or insult leaders like Cde Mahofa, but instead concentrate on development.”

He said it is “stupid and foolish” to continuously attack leaders and tasked Cde Mahofa and Dr Zivhu to sit, initiate and scout for partnerships in the implementation of projects at Tokwe-Mukosi.

Dr Zivhu, who is Chivi Rural District Council chairperson, said councillors should spearhead the development of their communities. “It is time that we develop our community. No one can do it for us,” he said. “Let’s not refuse sponsors wanting to assist us and I need your support instead of thinking that I want to take a senior position by these gestures. I will remain a councillor.”
