Veteran actress Patricia “Mai Jilimba” Musafare has urged national arts regulatory associations to prioritise empowerment and training workshops for artists.
With 40 years of experience in the industry, she made the appeal following the burial of Charles “Marabha” Mapalume in Epworth, Harare at the weekend.
Marabha died after a long illness at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital on Saturday.
“We are relieved that he was finally laid to rest, but much needs to be done regarding workshops and support for us,” she said.
“As actors and filmmakers, we must actively advocate to national arts regulatory associations for assistance in providing workshops that empower us.”
Mai Jilimba, known for her roles in various Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) productions such as “Mawoko Matema,” “Hupenyu Mutoro,” “Checkmate,” “Mafuro Manyora,” and “Gehena Harina Moyo,” remains optimistic about the future of the sector.
“We are focused and positive that we can turn the situation around.”
