A 28-year-old Harare maid from Borrowdale has appeared in court on allegations of conniving with her boyfriend to steal US$128 000 from her employer.

Linda Mubure was facing unlawful entry charges when she appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs Ruth Moyo.

According to the State, the complainant, Mrs Margaret Zvinavashe, intended to pay US$128 000 for a new house and on June 8, 2026, travelled with Mubure to Borrowdale to conclude the transaction, but failed to do so.

They returned home, and the complainant placed the US$128 000 in the wardrobe in her bedroom.

It is the State’s case that Mubure then connived with her boyfriend to steal the complainant’s money.

The court heard that Mubure allegedly took her employer’s bedroom keys to Strataven Shops, where she arranged for duplicate keys to be made by a locksmith.

On June 10, 2026, the complainant tasked Mubure to secure her house by locking all the doors and closing all the windows before departing for their farm in Norton.

The court heard that Mubure allegedly left the main entrance to the house unlocked and alerted her boyfriend, who is still at large, when they left the house.

Mubure’s boyfriend proceeded to the house, went in through the front door, unlocked the complainant’s bedroom using the duplicate keys to open the complainant’s bedroom, stole the complainant’s money amounting to US$128 000 from the wardrobe and went away unnoticed.

On their return from the farm, Mubure asked for the house keys from the complainant and pretended as if she was unlocking the house, but the complainant noticed that the house was not locked and there was no sign of any break-in.

The complainant went into her bedroom and discovered that it was open, and she also noticed that her clothes were missing from her wardrobe.

She saw Mubure deleting her conversation with her boyfriend and tried to stop her, but she refused and cleared all her conversations.

She reported the matter to the police, leading to Mubure’s arrest.
