IN a bid to fend for her children, a 22-year-old woman from Burnside suburb in Bulawayo stole property worth US$2 549 in her employer’s absence.
Cresensia Moyo appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Challenge Mahambe facing a charge of theft.
She pleaded guilty to the charge and was given a suspended sentence for five years on condition of good behaviour.
When asked by the magistrate why she committed the offence, she stated that she was trying to fend for her children.
“I would like to apologise to the court for committing the offence. l was just trying to get extra money and clothes for my children,” she said.
The court heard that on 23 April 2024 at around 3pm, Moyo took advantage of her employer’s absence and stole some property from her employer’s house.
Among the things that she stole were baby pants, baby jump suit, sweater jackets, crop top t-shirts, men’s trousers, suitcases, handbags, pink travelling bag, blankets, cover bed, baby blanket and carrying towel.
When her employer realised that his property had been stolen, he reported the matter to the police leading to Moyo’s arrest.
The stolen property was recovered from Moyo’s place of residence and it had been hidden in a room that is still under construction.
