A HARARE man told the court that an upward maintenance variation demanded by his former wife is too much, as he cannot afford it.
Takesure Dika was in the same court last year when his ex-wife, Kudzai Akimu, demanded $100 000.
He told the court that the upward variation is too much for two children.
“I cannot afford the amount she is claiming. I offer $50 000. Your Worship, I don’t earn much per month because I am also supporting another family,” said Takesure.
In response, Kudzai was not happy with the amount her ex-husband offered .
“I want $100 000 because I have two children who are 14 and 12 years old.
“He has a good job with a good salary, but all along, he was not paying maintenance that he was ordered to pay last year.
“Our 12-year-old child has outstanding school fees as I speak,” she said.
Magistrate Ayanda Dhlamini granted the order and ordered Takesure to pay $60 000 in addition to school fees.
