Maisonic out to derail Railstars

Sports Reporter
BULAWAYO Metropolitan Province Darts League championship dark horses Maisonic have vowed to derail title favourites Railstars and Archers following their 24-15 win over How Mine on Wednesday night. Maisonic are second on the table, tied on 14 points with pacesetters Railstars after 15 games. Eddie Ndlovu, the Maisonic chairman, said the championship race remained wide open and they were ready to fight for their maiden title.

“Any of the three teams can win the title, but we believe the amount of attention given to Archers and Railstars helps us silently pick up points without any pressure. Everyone in the team is giving his best to ensure we put up a strong challenge. We respect all the teams but we aren’t afraid of anyone. I think the remaining matches are important because any slip can cost us the title,” said Ndlovu.

The quartet of Ndlovu, Garry Simbanegavi, who has won 62 games, Johane Chirwa and Charlton Chababa has been instrumental in Maisonic’s fine run this season.

It remains to be seen whether the ambitious Maisonic will be able to shrug off competition from the star-studded Railstars and Archers when the championship heat increases.

Railstars cruised to a comfortable 27-12 victory over Zimbabwe School of Mines.

The railmen remain the team to beat and are firm title favourites having already bagged the coveted Champion of Champions club trophy.

Their championship hopes are being driven by the national team duo of Patrick Zimidzi and Mgcini Nkala, captain Charles Widzisa, George Nyathi, Sylvester Mudekwa, Kudakwashe Mutendi, Bornface Maningi and the seasoned McClaude Chirwa.

Archers have some of the best players in the league in the form of Brian Ndlovu, Nkululeko Ncube, Tafadzwa Mtomba, Albert Tawanda and Ndumiso Tshuma. They beat Parkview Lions 28-11 on Wednesday.

Table anchors Queens pulled a shocker by recording their second victory of the season against mid-table side Bellevue. Queens won 20-19.
