PROMISING 800m runner Vimbai Maisvoreva yesterday stormed into the finals of the IAAF World Under-18 championships with a brilliant performance at the Kasarani Stadium here yesterday.
Maisvoreva finished fourth in two minutes 12.08 seconds to earn herself a place in the girls’ finals as hers was one of the two fastest times after the top three athletes that automatically qualify to the last eight.
She goes into tomorrow’s finals ranked fourth as well after beating the time posted by the winner of the other semi-final Jackline Wambui from Kenya, who ran two minutes 14.18s econds.
The Rusape-based athlete was overjoyed by her achievement.
“The race was okay, it was not that tough. I just needed to maintain my pace and I am really happy I qualified. I am so happy, I don’t even know how to explain how I am feeling right now.
“I was able to keep up with the guys that were leading although I dropped back a bit in the last 200m,” said Maisvoreva.
