SOUTH African splash music icon Patricia Majalisa on Saturday night gave a splendid performance at Bulawayo’s Amphitheatre.
The show was well attended, a confirmation that Majalisa, a former Dalom Kids icon, has a huge following in the City of Kings. The stage was well set and first to take to the stage were fellow South African singers Mpendulo “General” Dandile, Silindile and Babongile.
Babongile left fans asking for more as his songs Stress and Kuzolunga proved popular with fans.
He was followed by Silindile who also did not disappoint. Her gospel tunes, Siyabonga and Nkosi Yami were also popular with the fans.
With the stage warmed up, it was time for the “Queen of splash music”, Majalisa to prove why she has earned the nickname.
She gave a top-drawer performance proving that like wine she has matured during the more than 25 years of her music career. She brought back old memories when she sang hit songs such as Thembalami, Tshomi Yami, Abatsha, Ngikhathele and Akulalwa.
Majalisa who boasts of pioneering splash music with her ex-husband Dan Tshanda, gave fans value for their money. Towards the end of her show, a fan who could not contain his joy went on stage and tried to hug Majalisa but was thoroughly beaten by security guards who left him unconscious. An ambulance had to be called to rush him to hospital.
