THE outgoing commander of 1 Infantry Brigade, Cephas Gurira, has been promoted and deployed to Zimbabwe National Army Headquarters following his tenure at the Bulawayo-based formation.
Maj-Gen Gurira officially handed over command of 1 Infantry Brigade to incoming commander Brigadier General Ernest Shamu Monday at ceremony witnessed by the ZNA commander Lieutenant General Asher Walter Tapfumaneyi senior military officers, Government officials and other stakeholders.
In his farewell remarks, Maj-Gen Gurira said it had been a great honour to command the brigade, which is the senior formation in the army responsible for operations across the Matabeleland region.
He described his time at the brigade as both productive and fulfilling, highlighting the strong bond built with officers, men and women of the formation as well as Government officials and provincial leadership in the region.
Maj-Gen Gurira commended members of the brigade for their commitment, teamwork and discipline, which he said contributed to the successful execution of operations, training programmes and other assignments given by Army headquarters.
He expressed confidence in the incoming commander, Brigadier General Shamu, saying the brigade would continue progressing under his leadership.
Maj-Gen Gurira urged officers and soldiers to maintain the positive trajectory and uphold the brigade’s proud history and outstanding achievements.
