EVERY child’s immediate role model is his or her parents. Some of the most popular celebrities are basking in the glory of fame as a result of following in their parents’ footsteps. However, the same cannot be said of Majuta Mpofu Jnr, son of the late yesteryear Highlanders soccer star Majuta Mpofu, as the lad has decided to trade his father’s soccer boots for a microphone.
This has shattered hopes for his father’s multitude of fans who would have wanted to see the 22-year-old uphold his father’s legacy of magnificent dribbling skills on the football pitch.
Popularly known by his stage name, Dr Jutar, Mpofu dropped his first single, Umkhumbi, in December last year.
The tribal house track which featured popular house outfit A-team, Mjox and DJ 316 foretells a growth of his fan base.
The track has proven to be a favourite in clubs and at parties.
Speaking to Showbiz, Dr Jutar said he was born a musician despite being son to a soccer legend and as such he had a passion for music.
“Many people, especially my dad’s fans, were disappointed when I chose not to follow my father’s soccer path, but I have always told them that God gave us different talents. I can play soccer but it’s not what I enjoy best. I do music best and my love for it has kept me going.
“It has been a struggle to reach where I am now, but I have gained a lot of support because people now understand that I was born a musician not a soccer player,” said Mpofu.
He added that he wishes to be famous like his father and hopes to attain that through music.
“My dad was famous and respected. I believe my fame is coming also, but through music.
“I must admit, it is not going to be an easy walk to reach where he was. I have got a huge task ahead,” added Mpofu.
Besides the hit Umkhumbi, Dr Jutar has also featured on several tracks by other artistes like Lawrence Ushe and Djembe Monks.
