Top Zimbabwe sprinter Tapiwanashe Makarawu asked to be excused from Thursday morning’s training session of the 4x100m relay team at the University of Ghana B Arena.
Makarawu competed in the 100m final on Wednesday evening.

“He has asked to be excused. We will have him in the afternoon and work out on baton exchange,” said coach Phakamile Lisimati.
Makarawu, the national 200m record holder, is a key member of Zimbabwe’s ambitions for the World Championships and the Los Angeles Olympic Games.

Despite his absence, starter Methembe Tshuma, third-leg runner Ngoni Makusha and anchor Makanakaishe Charamba gave their all during the morning training session.
The trio impressed with their explosive speed and smooth baton exchanges as Zimbabwe continued preparations for the relay heats later in the day.
