Makarawu to focus on races in Europe

AS he steps up preparations for the forthcoming World Athletics Championships, Tapiwanashe Makarawu is also considering chasing qualification in 100m.

He has already qualified in 200m for the championships to run from September 13 to 21 in Tokyo, Japan.

The qualifying time for men’s 100m is 10.00 seconds.

Having concluded the collegiate season a few weeks ago, he is considering races in Europe, with the guidance of his coach Darryl Anderson.

“⁠Yes, I am considering that, since I have a few races in Europe, I will see if it’s part of God’s plan or not.

“NCAAs is the final competition at collegiate level, so after this me and my coach are planning on running some few 100m races in Europe in preparation for the World Championships.

“And since I also didn’t have a chance to run the 100m during my school season due to injury,” Makarawu said.

He was part of the four-member team that represented Zimbabwe at the previous World Championships in 2023.
