CAPS United coach Lloyd Chitembwe doesn’t want attention to be centred on his comeback when the Green Machine host Buffaloes in a Castle Lager Premiership tie tomorrow at the National Sports Stadium.
The former midfielder begins another spell with CAPS United with the match against the Mutare side which is also battling for points as they stare relegation in the face. And speaking during a Press conference this week, Chitembwe, said it was not about individuals, but the whole team.
“I think the comeback is not really important for me. What is important is the team and I think we should give more focus towards the team rather than my comeback,” he said.
“The whole idea is to try and improve the team in all aspects, that is the responsibility of the coach to make sure it improves, in midfield it is also the coach’s responsibility as well as finishing and defending.
“So, all we are trying to do is to try and create a balance between defending and getting goals. If we are to defend and score one goal, we would be happy, the most important thing is a good result.”
Chitembwe returned into the club’s dressing room after CAPS United endured a poor run which saw them drawing against Tsholotsho and Dongo Sawmills at home before they lost to Chapungu inside a week.
But yesterday, veteran skipper Leonard Tsipa felt the dry patch could be a thing of the past as they have to get back to winning ways.
“As a team we need to get back to our winning ways. The coach is experienced and has been telling us at training how important it is to work hard and get maximum points in matches. We are concentrating on the upcoming match and following what he has been telling us at training.
“There are no small or big teams in the league and we are treating the Buffaloes match like any other game.
“We just want to collect three points and that is what we are focusing on at the moment.”
While the former champions will be gunning for points so that they bolster their chances to finish in the top four, their opponents are fighting for survival.
CAPS United have 30 points and 13 points behind pacesetters Chicken Inn. Buffaloes coach Saul Chaminuka believes it will be a tough match.
“They (CAPS United) are a motivated lot as they have a new coach and all the players want to prove a point.
“It will not be an easy game but we are also trying to move away from relegation. We are ready for CAPS United and we will give them a good run,” he said.
