A PUMULA South sales lady who turned her employer’s cash into a personal beauty fund has found herself slapped with a prison sentence after splurging on wigs, makeup and clothes.
Kudzai Mudzimba (26) was entrusted with goods worth US$2 920 on 5 August but instead of banking the money, she allegedly banked on a new look. A court heard she blew the loot on cosmetics and luxury fashion, leaving her employer counting losses while she posed pretty.
Her shopping spree came crashing down when she appeared before Tredgold Magistrate Maxwell Ncube. He sentenced her to 18 months in prison, but 2 months were suspended on condition of good behaviour. A further 6 months will vanish if she pays restitution of the full US$2 920, while the remaining 10 months were suspended on condition she completes 350 hours of community service at Premier High School.
Prosecutor Mehluli Ndlovu said Mudzimba’s makeover mission left her boss high and dry. Instead of sales, she made herself the customer of the year.
Now, instead of modelling her new wardrobe, the sales lady will be serving her hours of punishment, proving that crime may pay in wigs but it costs in freedom.
