RESIDENTS from Makokoba suburb in Bulawayo hosted a clean-up campaign on Friday in a drive to promote cleanliness and remove dumpsites in the area.

Ward 7 Councilor, Thandiwe Moyo said their motivation was to ensure they contribute to keeping the city clean.

“Our motivation is in keeping the city clean and we are doing this by focusing on our residential areas. This is further motivated by the declaration of the National Clean-up Day which is on the first Friday of every month,” she said.

Cllr Moyo said they cleaned a number of areas in Makokoba and hope to clean every street soon.

“We covered several areas in Makokoba on Friday, including Makokoba Shopping Centre, Makokoba SMEs (Ensimbini), Makokoba Market (Emkambo), Vulindlela Flats, and Kusile Flats. Our goal is to clean every street in the ward,” said Cllr Moyo.

She expressed hope for the campaign to become a monthly event, fostering a sense of community unity.

“This isn’t a new initiative; we’ve been cleaning our areas since the declaration. Hopefully, these campaigns will unite our communities and encourage collaboration to maintain a clean ward,” she said.
