THE City of Harare has welcomed a donation of paint from Makomo Engineering (Pvt) Ltd towards the restoration and refurbishment of Town House, describing the gesture as a significant demonstration of growing private-sector confidence in the capital’s development agenda.
The donation is expected to support council’s efforts to restore the appearance and condition of Town House, the city’s historic administrative headquarters, as the local authority continues to pursue partnerships with the private sector to improve municipal infrastructure.
Speaking on the sidelines of the handover this week, Ward 18 Councillor and Chairperson of the City of Harare Business Committee, Mrs Rufaro Matsika, expressed the council’s appreciation to Makomo Engineering for supporting the refurbishment programme.
Cllr Matsika said the donation demonstrated the growing relationship between the local authority and the business community.
“We would like to express our sincere appreciation to Makomo Engineering (Pvt) Ltd for this generous donation of paint towards the restoration and refurbishment of Town House,” she said.
“This gesture demonstrates the growing trust, partnership and synergy between Makomo Engineering and the City of Harare.”
She said the contribution was a practical demonstration of how the private sector could complement council’s efforts to restore critical municipal infrastructure.
“This is a very important gesture because it shows that the business community is willing to work with the City of Harare in improving our infrastructure,” said Cllr Matsika.
“We appreciate this partnership and we believe it will go a long way in supporting the restoration of Town House.”
The Business Committee chairperson said council remained committed to creating an environment that encouraged companies and other stakeholders to participate in the development of the capital.
She said stronger partnerships between council and the private sector were critical in addressing infrastructure challenges facing the city.
“We want to encourage more companies to come forward and partner the City of Harare. We cannot do everything alone, and partnerships such as this one enable us to complement our own efforts and ensure that our city infrastructure is restored and maintained,” she said.
Cllr Matsika said the gesture by Makomo Engineering should also inspire other businesses to contribute towards initiatives aimed at improving Harare.
“We see this as the beginning of a stronger relationship. We are saying to the business community that the City of Harare is open for partnerships, and we are ready to work with companies that want to see Harare developing,” she said.
The refurbishment of Town House is expected to enhance the working environment at the municipal headquarters while contributing to the broader restoration of the capital’s public infrastructure.
