THREE top managers at Makomo Resources, a coal mining concern based in Hwange have been arraigned for tax evasion involving more than $13 000.
Allegations are that they each prejudiced the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority of $4 525 in unpaid taxes.
Tendai Mungoni from Makomo Resources and two people whose companies are contracted to provide management services to the company, pleaded guilty to a charge of failure to pay tax .
The other two are Kudakwashe Nyabonda of Double Pick Properties and Jonathan Zichaswo from Mapungubwe Energy (Pvt) Ltd.
Hwange magistrate Mrs Rose Sibanda remanded the trio in custody to Friday for sentencing.
For the State, Miss Loveness Maseko told the court that the trio took the money between December 1, 2012 and December 12, 2016.
“During the period December 1, 2012 at Makomo Resources in Hwange, Tendai Mungoni failed to fiscalise the records of its taxable transactions for the purpose of VAT, that is to say they failed to put in place an electronic register for all its transactions, thereby prejudicing the State of $4 525,” said Miss Maseko.
For Double Pick Properties and Mapungubwe Energy (Pvt) Ltd, the dates of the commission of the same offence are between August 1, 2013 and December 12, 2016 and between June 2015 and December 12, 2016, respectively.
They also prejudiced the State of $4 525.
