MAKONDE Rural District Council has taken delivery of new roads rehabilitation equipment using devolution funds.

The delivery of a tipper this Monday comes a few months after the council bought a motorised grader using the funds. The new equipment raises hopes for better and quicker roads rehabilitation works in the district, which are in a deplorable state, as Makonde also benefits from the Emergency Roads Rehabilitation Programme 2 (ERRP2).

Council chief executive officer, Mr Paradzai Munyede, said the commissioning ceremony will be done soon.

Council chairperson Councillor Simbarashe Ziyambi said the procurement and delivery of the equipment was going to improve the state of roads in the entire district in line with President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 and National Development Strategy 1 (NDS 1).

“We are happy that our motorised grader is now here. We owe it to our President and the First Secretary of our ruling party Zanu PF, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa who gave us devolution funds which we used to purchase the machine,” Cllr Ziyambi said.

The council, he said, has also used part of the funds to drill and install seven solar-powered boreholes and tanks in seven wards and used its resources for the construction of a classroom block.
