Makonde Rural District Council has started auctioning stray livestock captured from across the district.
In a communiqué addressed to communities in the district, chief executive Mrs Lahliwe Murefu said council would hold the auctions at various business centres in the district.
She urged villagers missing their animals to visit the identified auction places on or before the sale dates with proof of ownership.
The auctions started on September 10 in Mhangura. Mrs Murefu said a lot of stray animals to be auction were captured in 2016 and 2017. One of the pound masters, Mr Rivison Try, from Broadlands in Mhangura said he was looking forward to buying the cattle during auction day instead of being given a token of appreciation.
Pound masters are used by council to capture stray animals across the district.
“When I found one of the animals, it had an ailment that forced me to use a lot of money for its treatment and it would be rather fair for me to buy the beast at a reasonable and fair price considering the expense I incurred while looking after it,” Mr Try said.
Council normally provides pound masters with token of appreciations soon after the sale of the stray animals.
