Zanu-PF Makonde district has resolved to boot out people who have resettled themselves or have been resettled clandestinely. This follows an influx of people coming from as far as Gokwe, who are settling in the district, leading to massive degradation of land.
Members of the district leadership expressed concern at the high number of people who are being unprocedurally settled on land. Zanu-PF provincial secretary for lands Cde Isaac Charuma called for stern measures against known people parcelling out the land.
“What is happening is chaotic and as a party we need to take a stand so that culprits are brought to book,” he said. Central Committee member Cde Phineas Makumbe said no one should settle themselves on land without following laid down procedures.
The responsibility to give out land lies with the Ministry of Lands and Rural Resettlement and no one should resettle themselves on land. The party’s provincial secretary for administration Cde Simba Ziyambi, who was chairing the meeting said preliminary investigations showed that money could be exchanging hands, as people were being settled by headmen and individuals.
