Makoni MP makes good his promises

Manicaland Correspondent
MAKONI South legislator Cde Misheck Mataranyika has hit the ground running in his constituency fulfilling promises he made to the electorate during election campaigns. Prior to the elections, Cde Mataranyika embarked on several developmental projects in the constituency, which naturally played a part in wooing voters and his subsequent resounding victory in the election.

The soft-spoken legislator spearheaded various projects such as the construction of school blocks, roads, bridges and the launch of school feeding program- mes.

Last week, Cde Mataranyika continued from where he left off and provided material for the construction of Nyamandowe Bridge under Headman Mupambawahle.

He donated 160 bags of cement and wire mesh, while Headman Mupambawahle will coordinate his subjects to provide stone and sand, with Makoni Rural District Council chipping in with the technical expertise.

Cde Mataranyika said he would not sit on his laurels after securing a seat in Parliament, but would continue to work hard for the development of the area and urged people to shake off the election mood, bury their political differences and work together for the prosperity of the nation.

“During the campaigns you told me that the major issue troubling was that of this bridge, which was damaged years ago,” he said. “Today I am back to partner you in constructing it. I will provide cement and wire mesh, which I have already acquired.

“Council will provide their experts in construction and Headman Mupambawahle and you will provide locally available resources such as stones and pit sand.

“Bridges and good roads are key economic enablers, so we must pay adequate attention to them. I am also urging you now to concentrate on the economy and come out of the election mood. We now want to concentrate more on the economy because we do not eat politics.

Zanu-PF Manicaland provincial member Cde Stanely Mbawa thanked Cde Mataranyika, describing him as a rare representative who did not vanish into thin air once elected.

“We would like to thank Cde Mataranyika for living up to his promises,” he said. “During the campaigns he promised a lot and managed to deliver, but even now after being elected he is continuing to perform. This is very rare to have such a representative who does not abandon the electorate.”
